Synopsis:
Wang Dahe is an ordinary postman. He delivers letters across the land on horseback. Attempting to deliver a university acceptance letter, Dahe learns that the student, Yusheng, has left town to visit her relatives in Shangri-La. The dedicated Dahe decides to make the long journey to Shangri-La. Battling his failing health and the elements of nature, he risks his life as well as the life of his beloved horse to deliver the letter.

When Dahe finally arrives in Shangri-La, he finds a ceremony is being prepared and learns that Yusheng is about to be married. Her bridegroom's parents will not permit her to attend the university. Dahe manages to persuade the bridegroom's parents to postpone the wedding. Now, in order to return before the deadline, Dahe and Yusheng must get to the university as fast as possible. But Dahe is very sick, his horse is very tired and Yusheng is not used to traveling in adverse conditions. The three battle the elements, attempting to get Yusheng to the university.
